Are Parents in Cumberland County Talking to Their Kids About Prescription Drug Dangers?

Every year, Cumberland county schools participate in a yearly survey with students. TN Together surveys 8th, 10th, and 12th grade around drug use.

 The TN Together survey from 2022, 2023 shows that most students are NOT having important conversations with their parents about the dangers of misusing prescription drugs. Here’s what we found:

Key Statistics:

📌 62% of students say they have never talked to a parent about this issue.
📌 Only 11.6% of students have had this conversation more than once.

Breakdown by Grade Level:

  • 8th Grade – More likely to have talked with parents multiple times (17.3%).
  • 10th & 12th Grade – Conversations drop significantly (only 7.9% and 8.5% report repeated discussions).
